We have asked God to leave us.

image

We are like those in Luke 8:35-37 We have asked The Lord to leave and He has.

Social Government has removed our foundations, the Love of God (Messiah the Prince) the Ten Commandments, and asked God to leave as it makes law. And now they expect evil to bow and be restrained to them as a foundation?  These men don’t understand evil nor do they know their own depths of depravity.

The Fear of The Lord is the beginning of wisdom and to depart from evil is understanding. Oops, There I go again quoting the very thing the people have rejected. Be Not Deceived, God is not mocked. For whatsoever a man sows that shall he also reap. He that sows godlessness shall reap evil. He that sows good shall reap good. Woe to the men who call evil good and good evil. Foundations matter. Our Society is reaping what it has sown. We have forsaken the solid foundations we were given and have replaced them with shifting sand.

image

What is sad is that those who replaced the foundation for what they believe is better are going to cause their house to crumble along with the poor foundation. We are witnessing it more and more daily. Disrespect for parents and authority, Tattooing our bodies, Sexual Perversion, Promiscuous sex, Theft, Lying, and Murder are climbing up in the stats. Divorce, Unlawful marriages and remarriages, Cursing and lusting for your neighbors goods and mate are common day actions without rebuke. The smaller sins are turning into greater sins as sin hardens the soul of our Nation against what is good.

Now Society is screaming for the Social Government to fix the problems. But it can’t. It is not only an outward problem but an attitude and inward heart problem. We are reaping what we are sowing. We don’t even know how to forgive nor have the desire to say no to sin. Myself included. I have experienced my heart growing this way to my shame and I acknowledge and know some of what is good. We have turned away from the Source of Healing and asked him to depart from us. There is no forgiveness or healing for us if we push God out of our lives. He is the true source and only medicine for what ails us. And it has eternal consequences.

Another great problem has arisen also. One of the places left on earth for God’s word to be proclaimed has forsaken His counsel also in the name of  humanitarianism and equal rights.  The Presbyterian Church USA has forsaken truth for a lie also believing their wisdom is above God’s Word.  Sexual Perversity has gained acceptance in the name of love.  Other denominations have done similar things.  The very place that truth is to be proclaimed has become a den of wickedness in word and action.  Now they have no place to return to for truth like the those described in Jeremiah 6, Romans 1, and Hebrews 10.

Jer 6:13    For from the least of them even unto the greatest of them every one is given to covetousness; and from the prophet even unto the priest every one dealeth falsely.
Jer 6:14    They have healed also the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace.
Jer 6:15    Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore they shall fall among them that fall: at the time that I visit them they shall be cast down, saith the LORD.

Rom 1:20    For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
Rom 1:21    Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
Rom 1:22    Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
Rom 1:23    And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
Rom 1:24    Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
Rom 1:25    Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
Rom 1:26    For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
Rom 1:27    And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
Rom 1:28    And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
Rom 1:29    Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
Rom 1:30    Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
Rom 1:31    Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
Rom 1:32    Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

Heb 10:26-27

For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,    But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

There is hope….

2 Chronicles 7:14

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

Romans 5:8

But God commendeth His love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us.

2Co 5:17-21

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;
To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.
For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him

Don’t Abandon the Watchtower Concerning Public Education

Image

Please look at the videos by Jane Robbins and read the interview with Brad McQueen.  The main purpose of this blog is to draw attention to them.

Wow, was I in the dark about Common Core. My son Samuel Snyder is going to School to become an educator and he told me it was bad. I understood that the Common Core Education concept was to Standardize education for the benefit of kids giving the school systems a standard where if one child moved from one school system to another that they could expect to be at the same level of teaching.  It appears that this isn’t the main objective as I thought it was. It is much more than that.  I remember when the Clinton administration introduced Outcome Based Education. I thought Outcome Based Education was bad when President and Mrs. Clinton were pushing it. The Dumbing Down of America was what it was known as. This sounds worse and they have slipped it in on us without us knowing it evidently.

My Elder, Russell Pulliam posted the article linked to below on Facebook.  I couldn’t believe what I was reading.  One of the insider teachers, Brad McQueen, a 5th grade teacher from Arizona who was put in place to supposedly help develop and promote the Common Core found out he was just being a Stooge or Prop to help promote the Common Core.  He had a rude awakening and a turning point that caused him much alarm.  He stated this in the article linked to below his comment.

Mr. McQueen said, “My turning point came when in answer to questions I had about a student writing sample, my Common Core handler blurted out, “We don’t ever care what the kids’ opinions are. If they write what they think or put forth their opinion then they will fail the test.”

Please read the following interview for the reason I was alarmed.

A scathing interview with a 5th grade teacher who was in the room when Common Core was being created

That is one amazing statement.  Check out the article and order the book if you sense you need to be enlightened concerning the topic of Common Core and why it is a very bad thing.

I also found the following informative.  Jane Robbins an attorney and a senior fellow from the American Principles Project discusses what has happened and what needs to happen in five short YouTube videos. I listend to Jane Robbins with great interest and with my jaw agape.  All I could think was how did this happen and I didn’t know about it.

I am shocked that I am so out of the loop concerning this.  In 1995 Westfield, Indiana’s school system had adopted the Outcome Based education curriculum.  My children were just entering the school system back then and I was fortunate enough to be able to move out of the area and into the area I grew up and went to School.  I didn’t have the capacity nor the ability circumstantially fight the system or to have my children educated at home.  Thank God he provided for my needs.  I did end up becoming a Teachers Aid for about three years in my children’s school system.  I am telling you this to explain that I was worried about the Education System back then and I use to pay attention to what was going on at one time.  My boys are all young men now and on their own.  To my Shame I just realized that I still need to make sure the Watchtower is still important.  My responsibilities are not over.  I need to care for this subject still because it will effect generations to come.  God has a lot to say about passing on truth to the next generation.  I can’t just relinquish those responsibilities.  I am suppose to love my neighbor as myself also.  I appreciate the fact that others have stayed on the Watchtower and are blowing the horns.  So I am going to pick my horn here and sound off.  I want others to be shocked if they are out of the loop.

Pay attention!  Pay attention!  Pay Attention!  Common Core is Evil.  Apparently the people who designed this only care about taking over our lives and turning hearts away from God and toward a godless Government run existence.

I know some people who read this would want to chastise me for even using the public education system.  I understand that.  I have heard the arguments and rebuttals from both sides.  I am not scared of the public arena.  In fact I am not willing to run away from it as long as I can still proclaim that Christ is King and we all should bow the knee to him.  I did that in the station I was called and I gave my children a good foundation.  I was involved with them and it opened up a lot opportunity for me to extend the boundaries of that proclamation that Christ is King.  I was never muzzled and I did faithfully proclaim Christ’s Crown and Covenant.

I truly believe this.  Pro 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.  Education is important.  Parents are ultimately the one’s responsible for their children’s education.  Not the State.  I am aware that we have handed a lot over to the Government that we shouldn’t have.  We are all guilty on some level probably.  Most of us have inherited these things from our forefathers who were trying to do their best.  But…

I want to thank all those who have stayed on the Watchtower and have blown the horns of warning. Thank You Indiana for killing the Common Core.  I pray the Lord will bring his Word and give wisdom to our Magistrate.  Please don’t just kill Common Core.  Bring life to future generations by allowing true Wisdom to be taught.

Job 28:28 And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.

Just as the Affordable Care Act isn’t affordable, the Common Core isn’t a common American heritage we should be proud of.

Be Encouraged, Christ has a remnant!

1Ti 2:1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;
1Ti 2:2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
1Ti 2:3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
1Ti 2:4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
1Ti 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
1Ti 2:6 Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.

Kudos to our Indiana Government for getting rid of it.

This is very long but well worth the attention.  I disagree with some of this gentleman’s discussion concerning testing but it has some good points.

Stay out of the Culture Wars and get back to the Gospel?

Image

Ever been told that the Church needs to get out of the Culture Wars and get back to the Gospel?

Well, here is my answer to that.

I admit that I find the cultural engagement a place to preach the Gospel of the Kingdom of God. The Law has many good functions as people engage each other no matter what arena we contend in. From the Church, Mars Hill, all the way up to the Magistrates, God has given us a wonderful foundation where we can call all men to be reconciled to God and live at peace with him. Don’t forget that it was Christ who gave us the Decalogue which reveals God’s will, Love God and our neighbor.

God is Love. But Love reproves wrong and perversion so that it can recover. To leave something or someone in a path of self destruction is not love. Therefore the word Repent is usually done with a lot of compassion and love for those who oppose themselves by their self-destructive lusts and behaviors.

Pastors and Christians who refuse to be involved with some of the issues in the “Culture Wars” should not be able to use the Gospel of the Kingdom of God as an excuse to not engage the world concerning its adversity to God’s will. The Culture Wars have eternal consequences.

As St. Paul noted, “How shall they hear if no one is sent.” After all we are the ones who are Christ’s Ambassadors. How shall they know if they are at enmity with God if no one brings that truth to them?  How shall the Christian in his station of life be challenged if he is not instructed on how to live out the Truth of the Kingdom of God in a world that opposes his King?  We can’t use the Gospel as an excuse to avoid the Culture Wars.  The World needs to be warned of the Wrath to Come.  The Christian needs to be warned about standing in a position that is opposed to God’s will.  Christ is the Mediator over all things.  Even over the peace of the Church.  We are called to be a light to the world.  We are to pray for all men in all stations of life so that Christ may be known and so that we may live holy lives in peace.

Pax Ecclesia.

Therefore don’t be ashamed of the Gospel of Christ for it is the power of God unto Salvation.  Romans 1:16

2Co 5:14 For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead:
2Co 5:15 And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.
2Co 5:16 Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more.
2Co 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
2Co 5:18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;
2Co 5:19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
2Co 5:20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.
2Co 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

2Ti 4:1 I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;
2Ti 4:2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
2Ti 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
2Ti 4:4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
2Ti 4:5 But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.

1Ti 2:1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;
1Ti 2:2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
1Ti 2:3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
1Ti 2:4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
1Ti 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
1Ti 2:6 Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.

I particularly want to draw attention to St. Paul’s challenge and that that charge was to all men everywhere in this passage. It means all men from Magistrates on down to the poorest. Everywhere.

Act 17:24    God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;
Act 17:25    Neither is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;
Act 17:26    And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;
Act 17:27    That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:
Act 17:28    For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.
Act 17:29    Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man’s device.
Act 17:30    And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:
Act 17:31    Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.

Tullian Tchividjian, Michael Horton, David Murray / Depraved Christianity / Antinomianism

Image
A few years ago the terms Depraved and Christian were being used together.  It raised some eyebrows back then so I started to document some of the communication and reviews that were being done by men such as Richard Phillips, David Murray, Tullian Tchividjian, and a few others.  The discussion provoked me into seeing that this topic also had to do with how the Gospel was being defined when I read this quote by Tullian Tchividjian .

 “The gospel, in fact, transforms us precisely because it’s not itself a message about our internal transformation but about Christ’s external substitution.”

That sounded foreign and a bit off kilter from what I had read in the Bible.  Especially after I felt confirmed in my understanding by scripture and what Dr. David Murray said in response to this.

Dr. David Murray writes…
I agree that the Gospel is certainly a message about Christ’s external substitution. But it does not stop there. The Gospel is also a message about internal transformation (a major part of sanctification). Christ saves us from our sins objectively and subjectively, from the penalty of sin and the presence of sin.

I found that a Modern definition of the Gospel had permeated the Church and it seemed very truncated and deficient.  So I wrote a third blog post highlighting the Gospel.  It was in response to what I had learned concerning what Dr. Michael Horton had to say about the Gospel.

 Horton notes…

The term “gospel” is a very precise term, a particular kind of word, or kind of speech in the Bible.  It refers to God’s promise of salvation in Christ.  The gospel is a victory announcement.  It never tells us something to do.  That is the business of the law.  Rather, the gospel tells us something that has been done.

Consequently, those who speak of living the gospel or doing the gospel commit a category mistake.   More importantly, they make the most basic theological mistake a person could make, namely, confuse the law and the gospel.  And if we confuse the law and the gospel, then we will make ourselves partly your own saviors, adding to the work of Christ.

Is Horton Correct?  …. As a Pastor aquaintance has noted….

The most serious problem is that Horton’s indictment is based upon a shaky foundation.  Horton’s critique is predicated upon his narrow and strict definition of the term “gospel.”  But is that the only way the Bible uses or defines the term “gospel”?  The answer is no!  Romans 2:16 connects the future judgment with the gospel and 2 Thess. 1:8 and 1 Pet. 4:17 both speak of obeying the gospel.  The gospel is to be obeyed.  But how do you obey a victory announcement?  How do you obey what God has done?  So either the Bible itself confuses law and gospel or it uses the word “gospel” differently (at times) than Horton.  Since the latter must be true, then Horton shouldn’t make the strict definition of the gospel, the one and only definition of the gospel.  And he most certainly shouldn’t make any charges of legalism towards those who use a broader yet biblical definition of the gospel.

Of course,  I threw some of my thinking into the fray because I had been dealing with these issues on a personal level for many years.  So just for a rehash of some older posts I present the blogs that were done a few years ago.

I have been a moderator of a Confessional Theological Discussion Forum for many years now.  Some may wonder if I ever get tired of having to wade through the issues as it always seems that there is some new pressing issue that the Church has to deal with.  The answer is yes.  I have had to pull back quite a few times and refocus on what is important.  I have found myself in need of repentance for attitudes I have developed.  I have grown weary of studying things I didn’t want to.  But I have also been graced to grow in the knowledge and Grace of Our Saviour.  He has been so good to us.  Even though I have learned we all have differences many of those differences actually help us grow.  So I don’t take it lightly that we have disagreements or might rub each other the wrong way.  As Iron Sharpens Iron says the old Proverb.  This one thing I have learned, If we are commanded to love our enemies as ourselves how much more should we love the Church and each other for whom Christ died.  May that be a force no one can overcome.

I still believe Orthodoxy leads to Orthopraxy.  Therefore I strive to know and grow.
May HIs Kingdom Come on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Be Encouraged,

Tullian Tchividjian and Mark Jones’ Reformation 21 blog post

Image

Click here to view Dr. Mark Jones’ Reformation 21 blog post, ‘Tullian’s Trench’

Pastor Tullian Tchividjian of Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church has been removed from the list of contributors on the Gospel Coalition’s blog. I believe his older posts will remain. Maybe Dr. Mark Jones’ challenges concerning sanctification (a Christian’s growth in personal holiness) along with other prominent men such as Richard Phillips, David Murra
y, Daniel Hyde, and Kevin DeYoung have had some influence on the situation. I don’t know if the decision to remove Tullian Tchividjian from being a contributor was made by Pastor Tchividjian himself or the Council Members over at The Gospel Coalition. Either way, I have a hope that the Church is finally getting the point that this issue is important and that it is just as important as Dr. Jones declared it is in his recent Reformation 21 blog post

“In aiming to protect the doctrine of justification, Tchividjian does more harm than good to this precious doctrine. We cannot be light-hearted about this doctrine; it is worth dying for. Even so, we can’t read justification into passages that are clearly talking about sanctification, as Tchividjian is prone to do in many places. When this type of theologizing is done by preachers on a consistent basis, their preaching becomes burdensome, and preaching (and God’s commandments) should not be burdensome. Ironically, by doing this (i.e., reading justification into sanctification), Tchividjian has made, to use his words, a “category” mistake.”

I personally appreciated Mark’s challenge here.

“But perhaps TGC will have the theological fortitude to remove Tchividjian’s blog. And will others say something? Oh that Tullian would be rebuked, not defended, by those wishing to recover the Reformed confession.” MJ

Maybe it is time for some cold reality to be splashed on the face of those who claim to be Confessionally Reformed and or Presbyterian. That reality can be stated like this, Just because you attach the name Reformed to something doesn’t necessarily mean it is good Reformed Theology. Good godly men have been lovingly raising awareness over aberrations concerning the teaching of sanctification and good works for the past few years. What some guys are pawning off as Reformed Theology doesn’t appear to be sound Reformed Theology at all. And that appears to include the teaching of sanctification and good works in its various formulations as noted by Mark Jones in his Reformation 21 blog post.

TGC explanation 5/21/14 http://thegospelcoalition.org/article/on-some-recent-changes-at-tgc

We want to give readers help in understanding some of the changes that have gone on at The Gospel Coalition of late. One minister, Tullian Tchividjian, was asked to move his blog off our website. Two other members of the Council, Joshua Harris and C. J. Mahaney, resigned from the Council (Tullian was not a member of the Council). Each move had significantly different reasons behind it.

In Tullian’s case, it was obvious to observers that for some time there has been an increasingly strident debate going on around the issue of sanctification. The differences were doctrinal and probably even more matters of pastoral practice and wisdom. Recently it became clear that the dispute was becoming increasingly sharp and divisive rather than moving toward greater unity. Earlier in the year our executive director spent two days with Tullian in Florida. Coming out of that meeting, it was decided that Tullian would move his blog. Finally the Council at its meeting last week decided that Tullian should move his blog immediately, and we communicated this conclusion to Tullian.

I honestly believe the Westminster Confession of Faith contains one of the best summaries and sound proclamations concerning sanctification and good works. So I will just leave you with its teaching as my final thoughts here.

CHAPTER XIII.

Of Sanctification.

I. They who are effectually called and regenerated, having a new heart and a new spirit created in them, are further sanctified, really and personally, through the virtue of Christ’s death and resurrection, by his Word and Spirit dwelling in them; the dominion of the whole body of sin is destroyed, and the several lusts thereof are more and more weakened and mortified, and they more and more quickened and strengthened, in all saving graces, to the practice of true holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord.

II. This sanctification is throughout in the whole man, yet imperfect in this life: there abideth still some remnants of corruption in every part, whence ariseth a continual and irreconcilable war, the flesh lusting against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh.

III. In which war, although the remaining corruption for a time may much prevail, yet, through the continual supply of strength from the sanctifying Spirit of Christ, the regenerate part doth overcome: and so the saints grow in grace, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

CHAPTER XVI.

Of Good Works.

I. Good works are only such as God hath commanded in his holy Word, and not such as, without the warrant thereof, are devised by men out of blind zeal, or upon any pretense of good intention.

II. These good works, done in obedience to God’s commandments, are the fruits and evidences of a true and lively faith: and by them believers manifest their thankfulness, strengthen their assurance, edify their brethren, adorn the profession of the gospel, stop the mouths of the adversaries, and glorify God, whose workmanship they are, created in Christ Jesus thereunto, that, having their fruit unto holiness, they may have the end, eternal life.

III. Their ability to do good works is not at all of themselves, but wholly from the Spirit of Christ. And that they may be enabled thereunto, besides the graces they have already received, there is required an actual influence of the same Holy Spirit to work in them to will and to do of his good pleasure; yet are they not hereupon to grow negligent, as if they were not bound to perform any duty unless upon a special motion of the Spirit; but they ought to be diligent in stirring up the grace of God that is in them.

IV. They, who in their obedience, attain to the greatest height which is possible in this life, are so far from being able to supererogate and to do more than God requires, that they fall short of much which in duty they are bound to do.

V. We can not, by our best works, merit pardon of sin, or eternal life, at the hand of God, because of the great disproportion that is between them and the glory to come, and the infinite distance that is between us and God, whom by them we can neither profit, nor satisfy for the debt of our former sins; but when we have done all we can, we have done but our duty, and are unprofitable servants: and because, as they are good, they proceed from his Spirit; and as they are wrought by us, they are defiled and mixed with so much weakness and imperfection that they can not endure the severity of God’s judgment.

VI. Yet notwithstanding, the persons of believers being accepted through Christ, their good works also are accepted in him, not as though they were in this life wholly unblamable and unreprovable in God’s sight; but that he, looking upon them in his Son, is pleased to accept and reward that which is sincere, although accompanied with many weaknesses and imperfections.

VII. Works done by unregenerate men, although for the matter of them they may be things which God commands, and of good use both to themselves and others; yet, because they proceed not from a heart purified by faith; nor are done in a right manner, according to the Word; nor to a right end, the glory of God; they are therefore sinful and can not please God, or make a man meet to receive grace from God. And yet their neglect of them is more sinful, and displeasing unto God.

Negro Slavery Unjustifiable Rev. Mcleod 1802

Exo 21:16 And he that stealeth a man, and selleth him, or if he be found in his hand, he shall surely be put to death.

The Reformed Presbyterian Church of North America was the second denomination in the United States to oppose Slavery. I believe the first was the Mennonites of German town. In their resolutions they denounced the evil in the 1600’s I believe. On 18 February 1688, they drafted a set of resolutions in opposition to slavery, or what they called “the traffic of men-body.”

But I may stand corrected by anyone who can help me with the history.

This was one of the subjects that drew me to Christ due to the fact that I was raised to believe in the dignity of all men no matter what their ethnicity was by my parents. I was asked to join a racist organization while I was in the Navy and I refused even though I was threatened by these people. Knowing my wickedness and seeing that evil was restrained in this world, I knew there had to be a good God. Creation declared his order and control. So I ran to the scriptures for understanding. I had tried to read the scriptures as a young child but with no understanding. I was like the Ethiopian eunuch who needed understanding.

Act 8:26 And the angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south unto the way that goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza, which is desert.
Act 8:27 And he arose and went: and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem for to worship,
Act 8:28 Was returning, and sitting in his chariot read Esaias the prophet.
Act 8:29 Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot.
Act 8:30 And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest?
Act 8:31 And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him.
Act 8:32 The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth:
Act 8:33 In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from the earth.
Act 8:34 And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man?
Act 8:35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.
Act 8:36 And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?
Act 8:37 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
Act 8:38 And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.
Act 8:39 And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing.

I obviously went away rejoicing in October of 1981. I started reading the Gospels and came to know God as He gave me understanding. You can read my testimony here.

My perceived Testimony of Christ’s work in my life.

John Calvin

Today I’ll share one last excerpt from the Reformation Church History course.  This is a topic relating to John Calvin that I’ve been studying since my university years.  I was originally motivated to study it because of debates about theonomy in the CanRCs in northern Alberta.  Theonomy is a view in Christian ethics which states that the moral/civil law of the Old Testament is exhaustively and perpetually binding upon civil magistrates.  There is some overlap between that view and what John Calvin taught, but there are also some significant differences.  Some of those differences relate to the context, others to principles.  In what you’ll read below, I don’t deal with the question of the relationship of Calvin’s views to contemporary expressions of theonomy.  This is merely intended to be descriptive of the approach Calvin took.

Calvin was not only a theologian, but also a Christian political philosopher.  He gave…

Is the PCA liberal or just going off the rails a bit?

image

     I am one who wants to conserve Confessional Integrity because I believe the Westminster Standards are a wonderful summary of the Holy Scriptures. Anyone who doesn’t want to conserve Confessional Integrity wants freedom from them on some level. If that makes them liberal then so be it, I guess.
Conserve
1. to prevent injury, decay, waste, or loss of:
     The Confession is a whole document. It is historically tried and truthful in my estimation. I admit there are things that are unclear to me and my Church has a testimony that runs along with it. But it is my whole denomination’s testimony and we confess it. Maybe we are liberal in some ways compared to what others think.The term Liberalism is not monolitic in understanding. It definitely needs some attachment to a topic.
     There are topics that seem to be more pertinant than others maybe.  The first area that concerns most people has to do what they think about the nature of Scripture. The Confession speaks concerning that issue. Another area has to do with God and who he is. The Confession speaks to that issue. I guess we need to discern what issue we are discussing. When it comes to Soteriology the Confession is quite clear on that issue also. While a person may affirm the confessional standards concerning the nature of scripture and who God is they might not affirm the confessional standard concerning soteriology.
     In the Presbyterian Church the integrity of the Westminster Standards is what the measuring stick is. At what point do we start to label someone liberal? That is a hard question. J. G. Machen definitely set a standard and noted that Liberalism is not Christianity. I guess I need to reread him and find out where he drew the line maybe. Concerning his libertarianism I might consider him a Liberal. LOL. I do not believe the Westminster Standards are Libertarian.
     I have been catching up on some of the Greenbaggins blogs. I normally stay away from it because the commentators seem to speak past each other and it is so disheartening. The recent last few blogs have had to do with the past G.A.( General Assembly)  From appearance and reports even outside of the PCA the last G. A. looks more like American Politics where posturing and heathen tactics are being used.than the methods of assembled prayer and seeking God’s face. As I noted, it is starting to look more like heathen godless politics than a Church following Jesus Christ. How is it that this came to be? Whatever happened to the High Calling in Christ Jesus and the reverence we are to have for His Kingship?
     As sheep we are to consider the conduct of our Elders and follow them. Where does this leave the laymen now? According to Hebrews 13 we are to consider the conduct of our Elders and follow them. Liberal or not, this can’t be anything the writer of Hebrews had in mind when he wrote that we are to consider the conduct of our Elders and follow them. I pray that repentance springs from somewhere. This is too confusing to be from the Hand of The Lord. I don’t want to see a situation likened unto the past where Moses said, “Who is on the LORD’s side? Come to me.” Exodus 32:26 I am saddened in spirit and for our brothers.
 I have heard communication that other PCA Elders wouldn’t recognize the blog posts on Greenbaggins (concerning the General Assembly) as being accurately reported.
My reply to that is…

In all due respect, maybe that is part of the problem. I am not relying upon Greenbaggins. I have been hearing ripples even outside and they aren’t necessarily the bloggers who are of the mind to announce overly harsh criticism. Sure there are plenty of those. There are some solid facts being presented from others that are acknowledging the polity and the results as the things that should have happened per polity. But the discord and maneuvering appears more like political wrangling than looking like a Church that is to seek Christ and adhere to a Standard known as the Westminister Confession of Faith.

It is probably a sad thing that most PCA Elders don’t recognize it as being accurate. I remember when the Federal Vision started raising its head. I was in the PCA then. Most Pastors were clueless as to what it was or even if it was a problem and the Doug Wilson books were filling the pew sitter’s libraries as the teaching was. Most PCA Pastors are tending to real life issues and working out situations in their congregations. That is hard work. They didn’t have the time nor see the urgency of the situation. They were Pastoring (dealing with sinners) and preparing for worship. So they were clueless for a time being. It just seemed like a heresy hunt to some. And I understand that.

All I am trying to say is that I am praying and hope many others are for a recovery. We have a wonderful set of Standards and they are not silent on these issues. We have God’s word and I know it isn’t silent either. The situation represented by many resembled more of a picture of English Parliament and American Politics than it did the picture given to us in Acts 15.  Maybe I am wrong. Either way, where is our example?

I was encouraged to have an optimistic outlook (by a very sound Deacon with whom I have a lot of respect) and consider the fact that the PCA cannot allow false confessionalism to stand as in the recent cases brought up. Especially concerning baptism, justification, Union with Christ, the visible Church, invisible Church, covenant of works, etc. I was exhorted to see that some people do not believe that there is significant sentiment in the denomination for the contrary views that have been discussed recently.

There was also reason to have hope as we see a very committed man heading Covenant Seminary now. We should also recognize that in Revelation 1-3, most of the types of Churches then (and now) have attributes of both commendation and chastisement. Most have some struggle with maintaining right doctrine and even those that were apostatizing sometimes are commended for having a faithful remnant in there midst.

WE MUST BE CAREFUL TO PROTECT TRUTH AND THE GOOD NAME OF OUR NEIGHBOR, ESPECIALLY WHEN BROADLY ASSESSING THE HOUSEHOLD OF FAITH, AND WHOLE COMMUNIONS.

My reply…

I appreciate the optimism some people have. I also appreciate the advice about protecting the good name of our neighbor.  At the same time I cringe because of the many issues I have been noticing in the past few years concerning Law / Gospel, Creationism, Communion, Soteriology, etc, have not been dealt with as they should have been. There are many issues that have been discussed and cautioned about. The leading authors in the PCA today are not leading others down the paths that Dr. Sproul and others from the past 30 years were solidly contending for. For instance, I steer my kids and disciples away from some prominent PCA authors. Do I need to name them? Some are very popular right now.

Also when we consider Revelation 1-3 we should note that Candlesticks were removed as The Lord promised. That isn’t something we should neglect. There was a reason for their removal. We surely don’t want to see that happen. But realistically there are major problems that seem to be swept under the carpet for the time being. As I noted above the recent situation should bring a lot of concern. Whose example are we to follow? Why is the leadership appearing to perform on a level of ineptness that renders confusion and looks more like political wrangling than a Church seeking the Lord’s will?

I appreciate the optimism but it seems to neglect a lot of the reality. Things are not being dealt with properly on a level it seems it should be. We have a PCA Church here in town that has an art museum exhibit as one of its main attractions. It is obviously a model Church from one in New York where many strange issues are spewing forth from. The New York Church is touted by many as a model to immulate. This ought not be in my estimation as I see a lot of confusion and strangeness being spewed forth from that place. There is much to be concerned about. Whose example are we to follow?

I hope this past G. A. is not one that will be touted as a fine example. Ineptness is what it seems to be marked by. Sure the praise and worship may have seemed to be edifying but I am wondering what The Lord thought of it. I am not going to pretend to know the mind of The Lord concerning how edifying the worship was. If the worship was all that great and uplifting I would have thought that it would have transferred over into the other areas of the General Assembly and it appears it didn’t.

I appreciate the optimism but I am very cautious about it also. There does seem to be something very amiss somewhere.

Objection to Establishmentarianism answered by John Brown of Haddington

image

Again, Joshua Hicks has noted another fine answer to an objection concerning Establishmentarianism.  The first one he noted is here. https://rpcnacovenanter.wordpress.com/2013/04/25/objection-answered-concerning-establismentarianism-a-nations-acknowledgement-of-christs-rule/

Another objection commonly put to Establishmentarianism is the fear of tyranny on the part of a non Christian magistrate.  If we press a state established religion, what if a Muslim, Mormon, __________ comes to power? Relatedly, John Brown of Haddington has this to say (and, really, I think his last sentence is quite pithily to the point):

[Objection]:The Christian law of doing to others that which we would have them do to us, demands, That we should allow every man to think, profess, and act in religion as he pleaseth. If we think men heretics, blasphemers or idolaters, our proper method is to manifest the utmost kindness and familiarity to them, that we may gain them to the truth. Every other method is no less dangerous than uncharitable. If orthodox Christian magistrates restrain and punish the spreading of Heathen, Mahometan, and Popish errors or worship,—Heathen, Mahometan and Popish princes will be thereby tempted to restrain and punish the spread of gospel-truth in their dominions, and can plead the very same right for their conduct.
[Answer]:
(1.) Strange! Did not God know the meaning of his own law of equity and kindness between man and man, and the true method of securing or propagating his own religion, when he made or encouraged the laws against seducers, idolaters, and blasphemers above mentioned;—when he commanded his people to avoid false teachers, and not so much as to lodge them in their houses.
(2) With all your pretended benevolence, Would you familiarly lodge in your in your family a notorious pick pocket or an harlot, along with your own children, in order to gain them to the ways of piety and virtue? You would not. Why then, in direct contradiction to the command of God, do you plead for familiarity with robbers of God, defilers, or murderers of souls!
(3) The Christian law of kindness and equity requires me to do all that for the real welfare of my neighbour, in subordination to the glory of God, which I could lawfully wish him, in like circumstances, to do for me? But, must I do evil that good may come, rendering my damnation just? Must I procure “my just liberty to believe and serve God according to his own appointment, by granting my neighbour an unjust, an authoritative licence to insult and blaspheme God, and worship the devil in his stead? Because I wish my neighbour to be helpful to me, in honouring God, and in labouring to render myself and others happy in time and eternity, Must I assist and encourage them in horribly dishonouring God, and destroying themselves and others. None but an atheist, who believes no real difference between moral good and evil, can pretend it.
(4.) When and Where have Faithful adherents to gospel-truth, got much liberty and safety by means of their friends encouraging and protecting gross heresy, blasphemy and idolatry?. . . .
(5) Ought Elijah to have spared, nay protected and encouraged the prophets of Baal, as a mean of securing for himself the protection of Ahab and Jezebel, or, because she was disposed to avenge their death? Must thieves and robbers be benevolently used, protected and suffered to pass unpunished, for fear of provoking their associaus to revenge the just severities used towards them? Let magistrates do their duty, and leave events to God.

(6.) Till you honestly profess yourself an atheist, who believes no intrinsical difference between moral good and evil, never pretend that magistrates, who have their whole power from God, have any power against the truth, or have a right to exercise that power derived from God for the good of mankind, to his dishonour and to the hurt of mankind. Astonishing! Because a power originating from God may be rightfully exercised in promoting his declarative glory, the spread or protection of his gospel, and the happiness of mankind,—May it, must it, therefore, in the hand of other magistrates, be rightfully exercised in promoting blasphemy and robbery of God, and worshipping of devils?—Because it may be rightfully exercised in punishing obstinate and notorious heretics, blasphemers and idolaters,—May it, must it, therefore be rightfully exercised in persecuting and murdering the faithful preachers and professors of Gospel-truths, and worshippers of the true God?—Because magistrates in Britain have a right to punish thieves and murderers, must these in France have as good a right to use Alms givers and skilful and diligent Physicians in the same manner?—Because that which tends to the highest honour of God, and temporal and eternal happiness of mankind ought to be authoritatively tolerated, nay established, every where,—may,—must, that which tends to his highest dishonour, and the most dreadful temporal and eternal ruin of mankind, be every where, in like manner, tolerated or established?—Because in a dearth, benevolent persons may be tolerated, nay highly encouraged in freely distributing wholesome provisions to the poor and needy, may, or must, malicious murderers be therefore tolerated and encouraged in distributing their poisoned morsels, especially if abundantly sweetened among the unwary infants or others?

(7.) The restraint or suitable and seasonable punishment of that which is contrary to God’s law, being commanded by himself, can never have any tendency to introduce corruptions in religion, or persecution for an adherence to gospel-truth. And if some will abuse their power, that must not hinder others, either in church or state, to use theirs aright.

A National Divorce.

Image

I was sent an email that snopes.com says is somewhat messed up but I couldn’t argue with the logic of the second part of it.  It seems our Nation is divorcing God.  Some believe we did that when our Constitution didn’t acknowledge His Kingship over this Country.  I am not so sure I hold to that extreme position but in a previous discussion I was told that my ideas and morals (which I know were foundational in this Country) are outdated and that we live in a different era. I had decried how homosexuality was perverse on facebook and to my amazement I found out that my Bible and my morals are now considered perversion according to one of my liberal friends.

So when I read the message below I thought it was applicable. The basis for why we do what we do culturally as a Nation has a foundation. Remove that foundation and we will have no reason for what we do or why we do the things we do.  We obviously have been taking these things for granted every day, week, month, and year. The following comment illustrates where we are headed in my estimation if we don’t experience a revival of truth and love for God in our Nation. .

Here is a portion of the email that I found fascinating with some changes and editing that I have done.  It was supposedly compiled from Governor Lepage’s comments which Snopes disputes.

THE LAW IS THE LAW!

“THE LAW IS THE LAW So “if” the US government determines that it is against the law for the words “under God” to be on our money, then, so be it.

And “if” that same government decides that the “Ten Commandments” are not to be used in or on a government installation, then, so be it.

I say, “so be it,” because I would like to be a law abiding US citizen

I say, “so be it,” because I would like to think that smarter people than I are in positions to make good decisions.

I would like to think that those people have the American public’s best interests at heart.

BUT,

Since we can’t pray to God, can’t Trust in God and cannot post His Commandments in Government buildings, I don’t believe Government (Federal, State and Local) and its employees should participate in Easter and Christmas celebrations which honor the God that our government is eliminating from many facets of American life.

I’d like my mail delivered on Saturdays, Sundays, Christmas, Good Friday, Thanksgiving & Easter. After all they are just another day.

I’d like the” US Supreme Court to be in session on Christmas, Good Friday, Thanksgiving & Easter as well as Sundays.” After all they are just another day.

I’d like the Senate and the House of Representatives to not have to worry about getting home for the “Christmas Break.” After all it’s just another day.

I’m thinking a lot of my taxpayer dollars could be saved, if all government offices & services would work on Christmas, Good Friday & Easter at normal hourly pay. It shouldn’t cost any overtime since those days would be just like any other day of the week to a government that is trying to be “politically correct.”

In fact….I think our government should work on Sundays with normal pay (AFTER ALL, It was initially set aside for worshiping God) because, AFTER ALL, our government will end up saying it is just ANOTHER DAY.

:(

Eight years ago I wouldn’t have thought it possible that marriage could be redefined and homosexuality sanctioned by our Nations law makers. Twenty years ago it was unthinkable in my mind.  So maybe a 7 day work week isn’t that far off.  The Blue Laws are being removed state by state and we are seeking a better economy, aren’t we?  What better way to get more work done than remove those pesky religious days for the sake of productivity. Think I am off base on this one?  I was obviously off base thinking that homosexuality wouldn’t be sanctioned in America.  I worked 7 days a week 12 hours a day when I was at sea in the U. S. Navy.  I guess time will tell.

As a sidenote please know that I don’t hate homosexuals.  I do believe that homosexual sin is more of an abomination according to the scriptures than other kinds of sin.  I also know that all men are capable of repentance and being redeemed by Messiah the Prince if He is willing to set them free.  And He knows how to save sinners and reconcile them to God.

Rom 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

2Ch 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

.Gal 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

.
